BlackBerry to release the first smartphone on QNX platform in early 2012

Yerevan /Mediamax/.Research in Motion (RIM) Canadian producer will release the first BlackBerry smartphone based on QNX platform in the first quarter of 2012, Cnews reports quoting Boy Genius Report.


Technical features and interface of the prospective device (but for the fact that the smartphone will be equipped with one-core chip and 4.3- inch touch screen) are not known yet.

QNX Platform was transferred to RIM on QNX Software Systems purchase in 2010. The QNX platform was used mainly in the industry before, including telecommunication and medical equipment, security systems, vehicles, equipment for NPPs etc. QNX’s major merits are reliability, low energy consumption and broad multimedia capacities.

RIM intends to transfer the whole range of its models to the new platform by late 2010. The company believes that the introduction of the new platform will allow BlackBerry to compete with Apple and Android-based devices more efficiently.
