CPEC declared “ArmenTel” and FiberNet as dominating in the market of wholesale internet in Armenia

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Committee for Protection of Economic Competition (CPEC) of Armenia declared “ArmenTel” (Beeline brand) and FiberNet companies as dominating in the market of wholesale internet today.

Chairman of the Committee Ashot Shahnazaryan stated that “ArmenTel” occupies 53.9% of the market and FiberNet – 46.1%. According to him, the estimations are based on the analysis of financial turnovers of two companies in the market of wholesale internet.

Ashot Shahnazaryan explained that concerning “ArmenTel”, administrative proceedings were initiated basing on complaints from the part of providers, which accused Beeline of unjustified price policy. According to him, the Committee was to declare “ArmenTel” as occupying a dominating position to later have legal basis to suppress signs of this position abuse.

Head of “ArmenTel” Legal Service David Sandukhchyan expressed indignation in connection with uncoordinated activity of two state structures. According to him, Public Services Regulatory Committee (PSRC) and CPEC declared “ArmenTel” as dominating, basing on different criteria: data transfer and money turnover volume. According to him, the market of wholesale internet in the whole world is estimated basing on units of information transfer.
