HIKEArmenia free application has been launched, which will help discover new hiking trails in Armenia, connect with local guides, and find out where you can stay or make a stop in the area.
The app is available on App Store and Google Play.
HIKEArmenia was developed by ONEArmenia NGO through a crowdfunding campaign they held last November. More than 200 people chipped in to make the application come to life.
According to the initiative’s Program Manager Charlotte Poulain, the overall goal of the app is to develop tourism in Armenia’s rural regions, and to make trails more easily accessible to all, whether they’re experienced hikers or novices, living in Armenia or simply traveling.
“The app itself is pretty straightforward: the home screen presents the user with a list of trails, ranked by length and difficulty. Each trail page includes a trail description, contact information for several local hiking guides, and nearby accommodation options. Most importantly, the app gives access to each trail’s GPS tracks, and allows the user to easily follow them,” Charlotte Poulain noted.
At present the app features five hiking trails, and new ones will be added in the future.
HIKEArmenia will be available in English, Armenian, Russian and French.
