VivaCell-MTS provides sustainable water supply to Lor community

The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets and VivaCell-MTS have summed up the results of a joint program implemented in order to improve water supply network in rural communities, due to which Lor community of Syunik region will be provided with 24-hour water supply.

A 2 km long water pipeline was built; the water reservoir and the water intake system were reconstructed and fenced.

The opening ceremony of waterline and the water reservoir was attended by the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian, the FPWC team, Lor community head David Arustamyan as well as community residents.

“I know firsthand what it means having no water supply in the հօuse. Imprinted in my memory are the pictures of the “road of life” in the war-torn Beirut of 80s, me and my younger brothers, armed with water cans, pass running day after day to get water from the neighboring quarter. One can endure any severe condition residing in an apartment with no utility service– gas, electricity, or even heating, but not without water. Nothing can substitute for water. Today we are happy to share the joy of the village residents who are now provided with all-day round water supply,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian said.

The poet Hamo Sahyan's birthplace Lor has 420 inhabitants. The community had never had a sustainable water supply. For years, the residents used the neighboring village water lines, which were used for irrigation in summer, and as a result Lor almost had no water. During other seasons the water was supplied in unstable schedule.

Because of the lack of water reservoir sanitary norms the supplied water was mainly used for irrigation and household purposes. The residents used only the village reservoir water for drinking.

Due to the implemented works; the water pipeline construction and sanitation, Lor community residents will have 24-hour water supply since now, regardless of the season, which will be used both for drinking and irrigation.

In the frames of the joint program implemented by The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS aimed to water supply improvement, Chkalov community in Lori region and Tsovagyugh community in Gegharkunik region have also been provided with sustainable water supply in 2015.
