Yerevan/Mediamax/. “ArmenTel” (Beeline trademark) announced today about the expansion of trunk channels by connecting to the backbone network of Tier 1 provider -Level 3 Communications, Inc Company.
The outer channel passes in the North direction through the territory of Georgia. The new 10Gb channel is linked to the network of Level 3 Communications operator in Frankfurt.
“The installation of direct connection with the operator, whose own backbone network connects the continents - is another achievement of “ArmenTel”. The new connection will allow the universal operator of Armenia increase the reliability and the speed of access to foreign internet recourses, increase the capacity and the level of independence of our infrastructure as well as become a ground for new proposals in the sphere of communication,” “ArmenTel” CEO Igor Klimko said.
It should be noted that in late 2010, “ArmenTel” became the first operator providing telecommunication services in Armenia to connect to the European backbone network through “Caucasus Cable System”. The backbone networks of the company pass through neighboring countries, Georgia and Iran in particular.
Level 3 Communications is one of the largest Tier 1 international operators. The company has one of the largest backbone networks in the world – over 85 000km long. The company’s network covers the continental part of USA and most of Western Europe. The operator also owns a 100 Gigabit Ethernet network through the Atlantic which connects two parts of its network.
