Consumer Rights Protection Day to be marked in Armenia today at the initiative of Microsoft Company

Yerevan/Mediamax/. For the first time, Consumer Rights Protection Day will be marked in Armenia today at the initiative of Microsoft Company.

Mediamax reports that Director of Microsoft Representative Office in Armenia Grigor Barseghyan said this at a news conference in Yerevan today. According to him, the event will be devoted to protection of consumers from counterfeits and pirate products.

Grigor Barseghyan informed that in 2006, pirate programs occupied 96% of the market in Armenia, and in 2009 the index reduced by 6%. According to Grigor Barseghyan, this allowed increasing the proceeds to the state budget by USD 5mln. Following the results of 2010, they also expect reduction of the level of “piracy” by 2-3%.

Grigor Barseghyan noted that the price for licensed production exceeds the cost of the pirate product, however the damage, caused by the unlicensed program, may cost much higher.

He noted that Microsoft demonstrates individual approach in that direction, in particular, by offering various tariffs for home users, offices and corporate customers.

Grigor Barseghyan noted that in a struggle for respect for copyright, the supreme role belongs to the government of the country, since the further development of economy of Armenia, based on knowledge and innovations, depends on it.
