Armenian government will demand use of Unicode encoding from all governmental structures

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian government made changes in the order of state records management today, which provide for carrying out digital documentation and keeping official websites in Unicode encoding.

Head of the government’s staff David Sargsian stated at the session today that a number of organizations, functioning in the sphere of IT, have turned to the government in the view of the fact that certain official governmental websites and documentation are not available in Unicode encoding, which creates difficulties as to their use.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian noted that this problem was also raised by public organizations and participants of BarCamp and Digitec forums.

“Unicode encoding is the only one in Armenia, which meets standards of our legislation and all governmental structures have to use it”, the Prime Minister stated.

Prime Minister charged the head of the staff with sending written notifications to all governmental structures on compulsory transition to Unicode encoding.
