Number of internet users in Armenia doubled in a year, Prime Minister informed

Yerevan /Mediamax/. In 2009, 3% increase in IT sphere was registered in Armenia, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian stated today.

Mediamax reports that, speaking at a news conference following the results of 2009, the Prime Minister stressed that in terms of diversification of Armenian economy, IT sphere is a priority direction, and the government will do everything possible to develop this sector.

In 2009, the prices for internet reduced twofold, and the tendency for price decrease will continue in 2010, Prime Minister stated.

Tigran Sargsian stated that at the beginning of the year, the number of internet users in Armenia made 75 thousand people, and today 150 thousand citizens already use internet. At that, the Prime Minister noted, 700 thousand citizens of Armenia use mobile internet.

The Prime Minister reminded that the year of 2009 was marked by the entry of the third mobile connection operator Orange Armenia to the market, which contributed to toughening of competition.
