Stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Yerevan telephone network issued

The stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Yerevan telephone network was canceled today and put into circulation.

The cancelation was held by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication Andranik Aleksanyan, “ArmenTel” CEO Andrey Pyatakhin, Head of Amrenian Philatelic Association Hovik Musayelyan and Head of Haypost Trust Management Juan Pablo Gechijyan.

In 1913, the first telephone exchange with the capacity of 200 phone numbers was put into operation in Yerevan. It was used by 71 subscribers. In 1914, Aleksandrapol-Yerevan and Aleksandrapol-Kars first long-distance phone lines came into existence. The system functioned until 1920.

Armenian telephone system grew especially during the post-war period. The first automatic telephone exchange with a capacity of 6000 numbers was put into operation in 1948.

The stamp features images of a phone used in the 1930s, a Telefonyegar R.T. Budapest phone and a phone used in the 1980s against the background of telephone poles and wires lineman.

Due to “ArmenTel” not only Yerevan city phone line but also the entire wired structure of Armenia meets the most up-to-date standards”, "ArmenTel" CEO Andrey Pyatakhin noted.
