VivaCell-MTS and Ministry of Education present schools and universities ranking programs

 Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Ministry of Education and Science worked out programs for schools and universities ranking with the support of VivaCell-MTS operator.

The rankings are based on the Law on Education and Requirements for Integration to the Bologna Process, Mediamax reports.

VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian stated today that development and economic competitiveness of any country is conditioned by the reforms in the educational sphere. \"As business representatives, the educational system is very visible and transparent for us. We are interested in the information on the education level in Armenian universities\", he said.

Armenian Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan stated today that Armenia is the first country in the region to have introduced the ranking system for educational institutions.

\"The goal of the system to ensure transparency and accountability so as the information on the educational institutions could be based on the objective facts\", he said. According to the Minister, the system aims not only to reveal leaders but also \"diagnostic functions\", for instance, finding out schools which need additional state support.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science Karine Harutyunyan said that foremost international practice was studied to work out the national model of ranking system.

She said that universities will be ranked by 9 criteria: students, study results, international orientation, scientific and research works, teaching process, order, connection with the labor market, students\' schedule, overall marks and building of the universities.


Schools will be ranked by 4 parameters (49 indices overall) - pupils, study results (45%), teachers (20%), school\'s activity (10%) and management effectiveness (25%).

The first rankings of educational institutions will be published in 2013.
