Wiki-conference to be held in Yerevan

Yerevan/Mediamax/. The Armenian Wiki community and “ArmenTel” jointly with the World Wikimedia Fund will hold the first international Wiki-conference in Armenia.

The conference, which will be held in Armenia-Marriot Hotel on September 8-9, will focus on issues related to the development of the Armenian content of Wikipedia online encyclopedia and the use of “wiki” instruments and technologies in Armenia

“Wikimedia provided us a grant to host the conference for promoting Wiki-projects and Wikipedia. “ArmenTel” also renders assistance to us,” Coordinator of Armenian Wikipedia Susanna Mkrtchyan said.

The head of “ArmenTel” PR Department Anush Begloyan highlighted the importance of the Armenian content of Wikipedia. “The conference aims to expand the Internet community which can find time for the development of the Armenian content of Wikipedia,” she said.

“The goal of Wikipedia Fund is to provide free knowledge to everyone and I am happy that Armenia also has a community which has the same goals,” said member of the Board of Wikipedia Fund, Tin Chan.

The opening of the representation of Wikimedia Fund in Armenia will be also discussed within the framework of Wikimedia conference. Over 200 representatives of the Internet-community expressed desire to take part in the forthcoming conference.
 
It should be recalled that Mediamax invited the President of Wikimedia Germany Sebastian Moleski to Yerevan within the framework of Yerevan Web Meetings 2011.
