Hacker attacks statistics: .am vs .az

Itel.am presents the statistics on hacker attacks on .am and .az domains in 2011-2016, released by CYBER GATES.

According CYBER GATES Founding Director Samvel Gevorgyan, about 5000 websites in Armenia became victims of attacks in the last 5 years.

In January-September 2016 (until September 20), 359 websites on .am domain were attacked. Note for comparison that the number of websites attacked on .az domain is 129.

The most intense attacks were made on .am domain in July (87 websites). Other months of active attacks were January (83 websites) and April (75 websites).

Comparative analysis of the websites attacked on .am and .az domains in the period of 2011-2016 shows that the number of successful attacks on .am is much higher.

On the other hand, there is a tendency of decrease of that gap. In 2012, 1395 websites were hacked on .am against 482 on .az, but in 2015, the same index was 667 for .am compared to 281 for .az.

In the last 5 years, the most intense attacks were conducted within the following months:

- 2011, January – 379 websites,
- 2012, July – 364 websites,
- 2013, February – 275 websites,
- 2014, February – 359 websites,
- 2015, April – 129 websites.

The websites under attack were:

- Online banking and finance agencies,
- Cloud services,
- Government agencies,
- Hosting and Internet services providers,
- Small, old websites, which are easily hacked.
