Yerevan/Mediamax/. Upon the decision made on November 1, 2011, Cornet-AM won’t provide WiMAX technology internet services starting from this year, General Director of the company Boris Demirkhanyan told Mediamax.
The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia met the request of the company on recognizing the permission of using provided radio frequencies as invalid.
At the same time, according to Cornet-AM, WiMAX technologies ensured 95% income of the company. According to Boris Demirkhanyan, the future activities of the company depend on the decision of the shareholders.
Owner of Cornet-AM, Russian Comstar-OTS Company, merged with “MTS” OJSC which in its turn is the shareholder of the Armenian VivaCell-MTS mobile operator.
Thus, Cornet-AM is likely to merge with VivaCell-MTS as well.
Answering Mediamax’s question, spokesperson for VivaCell-MTS Vahe Isahakyan said that “Cornet subscribers who used WiMAX technology internet will be provided VivaCell-MTS 3G services”.
Cornet-AM formerly intended to enter the fixed communication market and was given the relevant license last year. In his interview to Mediamax back in November 2010, General Director of Cornet said that the company was developing a conception on unified provisions of services including fixed communication services jointly with VivaCell-MTS.
