Yerevan/Mediamax/. Biometric passports and Identification cards will be introduced in Armenia from 2011.
Mediamax reports, Head of passport and visa administration of Police of Armenia Norayr Muradkhanyan announced at the news conference in Yerevan today.
He said that ID cards will possess internal destination and contain personnel data information, as well as index finger prints.
Norayr Muradkhanyan said that the citizens of Armenia, whose passports are valid until 2020, can freely choose the type of the document, and the citizens, who have reached the age of 16, will be obligatory issued biometric passports and ID cards from 2011. He said, the introduction of biometric passports is one of the liabilities to Council of Europe.
“Office for Digital Inclusion Infrastructure Control” OJSC Director Artur Ghulyan stated that ID cards will allow the citizens of the country getting digital services in Health Protection, taxes spheres. In addition to this, identification cards can also serve as driving permit, said Artur Ghulyan.
Head of passport and visa administration of Police informed that Armenia studied the experience of Estonia, which has been experiencing biometric passports and ID cards for 10 years.
