“ArmenTel” getting ready for competition in landline connection market

Yerevan /Mediamax/. “ArmenTel” Company completes works on digitalizing three Automatic Telephone Stations (ATS) and modernizing existing digital stations to increase the number of landline connection subscribers in Yerevan.

Head of “ArmenTel” Legal Service David Sandukhchyan said this in Yerevan today.

Answering Mediamax’s question on what changes the situation in landline connection market after the entry of new players to the market will undergo, David Sandukhchyan stated that new companies mainly plan to provide wireless landline connection basing on WiMAX technology. According to him, WiMAX technology is elaborated for densely populated towns (urban area network-UAN) and may be effectively applied in Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor, however, from commercial point of view, use of such technologies in regions is unprofitable.

David Sandukhchyan noted that new operators may make competition to “ArmenTel” in large cities, and concerning the regions, the only opportunity to use WiMAX technologies there is provision of internet services.
