Yerevan /Mediamax/. The government should participate in providing Armenia with internet connection, Commercial Director of Armenian Datacom Company (ADC) provider Avetik Kalantaryan stated.
Mediamax reports that, speaking on May 9 in Aghveran during discussion of internet problems in Armenia within the framework of forum of IT-Companies’ heads, Avetik Kalantaryan stated that the majority of problems, related to providing Armenia with internet connection, are conditioned with the fact that the state has completely left that sphere.
“If with the participation of the government there is a large organization established in Armenia, which will competently hold talks at the international level, the price and the quality of internet connection in Armenia will significantly improve”, Avetik Kalantaryan stated.
He expressed opinion that “ArmenTel” and “FiberNet”, which supply internet to Armenia, are not authorized to hold talks at the international level, the fact negatively influencing both the quality and the price of internet in Armenia, and the regulation of relations among providers.
In this context, Avetik Kalantaryan noted problems with securing interconnect among providers of Armenia, which often set artificial limitations for each other, the fact leading to delays in information transfer and loss of sent packages.
“ArmenTel” was supposed to deal with this issue, however, it established very high prices for securing interconnect between internet providers, and this is why the latter started building infrastructure using their own capacities”, ADC Commercial Director stated.
