PicsArt to open an AI lab in Moscow

Armenian-American company PicsArt plans to open an AI lab in Moscow. According to PicsArt cofounder and CEO Hovhannes Avoyan, the project could cost up to USD 2 million, VC.ru reports.

The company is going to hire 20 local engineers. The Russian lab will work on AI technologies which PicsArt uses for photo filters, augmented reality cameras and ad selection.

Avoyan said they chose Moscow for the good Russian math school and the large number of engineers specializing in artificial intelligence.

Founded in 2012, PicsArt has an app and social network for photo editing, collage making, drawing and joint editing. The company has offices in Yerevan and San Francisco, and around 120 million users, who create near 1 billion pictures monthly. PicsArt has raised USD 45m so far.
