VimpelCom Ltd. will change name to VEON as it launches the internet platform of the same name.
The company informed that on March 30 the shareholders will hold Extraordinary General Meeting to approve the decision.
VimpelCom noted that VEON integrates powerful data analytics and artificial intelligence. At the same time, the platform allows users to stay connected for free, no matter the status of their data plan - even when they are out of credit.
The internet platform was first launched in Italy.
“Our re-branding reflects an ambition to reinvent the company from a telecom company into a global tech leader,” said VimpelCom Group CEO Jean-Yves Charlier.
Jean-Yves Charlier added that today VimpelCom announced global partnerships with STUDIO+, Deezer and Mastercard. Each of them will integrate new services into the internet platform.
The new platform will be introduced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today.
