Famous Armenian-American venture businessman, scientist and philanthropist Noubar Afeyan was elected a term member at the board of trustees of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
According to the news article published on the institute’s website, the board of trustees elected 10 term members and two life members. Term members will each serve for five years.
At present, the board of trustees consists of 76 distinguished leaders in education, science, engineering, and industry. Of those, 25 are life members.
Since 2000, Afeyan has been a senior lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He earned his PhD in biochemical engineering from MIT.
The Armenian-American philanthropist is founder and CEO of Flagship Ventures. In his 30-year career, Noubar has co-founded more than 38 life-science and technology startups.
Noubar Afeyan is also co-founder of 100 LIVES project and the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, as well as co-founder and partner of the UWC Dilijan International School.
