Orange Foundation sums up the results of “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” 2015 project

Orange Foundation and Armenian EyeCare Project (AECP) are summarizing the results of  works carried out in the scope of “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” project this year. Thanks to this partnership, over 87,700 inhabitants of regions of Armenia have benefitted from quality eye care services for free since 2011.
 
The project of 2015 encompassed Kotayk, Lori, Shirak and Aragatsotn regions, where firstly eye screenings were conducted followed by surgeries and laser treatments performed in the Mobile eye hospital (MEH). In the mentioned 4 regions 9,433 adults and 10,694 children were screened, out of which 1,726 adults underwent surgeries and laser treatments in the MEH, 1,277 received glasses and 1,700 children participated in public classes on eye care.

“We are proud of the results of 5-year partnership with Orange Foundation. During this period tens of thousands of socially vulnerable citizens have benefited from high-quality eye care services for free in the scope of “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” project and substantially improved and in many cases even regained long-lost sight. This is a strategic project encompassing the entire territory of Armenia and including a complex of eye care services – from public education to surgeries,” said Varvara Kalashyan, Acting Country Director of the AECP.

““Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” project, implemented jointly with our partners already for the fifth year in a row, is one of the key initiatives of Orange Foundation, as it helps tens of thousands of people, bringing real and tangible changes in their life. We proudly state that already more than 87’000 people have benefited from high-quality eye care services, however, we still see a need to continue the project: thus, next year the Mobile eye hospital will again start its tours in the regions of Armenia,” said Aleksandr Yesayan, General Director of Orange Armenia.

In 2011-2015, thanks to the partnership of the Armenian EyeCare Project and Orange Foundation, 61,394 adults and 26,301 children underwent eye screenings, out of which 11,466 underwent further in-depth examination, 7,277 surgeries and laser treatments were performed in the MEH, 25,458 eyeglasses were distributed and 6,749 children participated in public classes on eye care.
