CNN: Armenia is a new virtual Silk Road

American CNN channel’s November 23 issue of “Silk Road: Past, Present, Future” series was devoted to the Armenian capital.

“New Virtual Silk Road” - this is how CNN describes Armenia’s path of exporting innovative technologies.

“Yerevan is one of the oldest cities in the world and it’s rapidly turning into a regional hub of digital technologies and innovation”, notes CNN correspondent in his footage names “Yerevan: Between History and Technology”.

Within the program, the TV channel’s team also visits ArmTab Factory.

“You have probably heard of an iPad, but what about an ArmTab. This is Armenia’s own tablet computer, designed and assembled by engineers right here in Yerevan”, says the CNN correspondent.

According to him, across Yerevan the IT sector is booming: numerous startups are founded by young and educated Armenians.

Touching upon the technological heritage of the country, Director of Rafa Solutions Rafael Ghasabyan notes: “I would probably say Armenia was kind of a Silicon Valley of the Soviet Union time”.

The correspondent also touches upon Triada Studio’s Shadowmatic game and its having been granted Apple Design Awards.

“We were surprised to see that people pay attention to us. As though we were a sports team and whole Armenia was rooting for us”, says Director of the company, Ara Aghamyan.

Founder and Director of Technology and Science Dynamics Vahan Chakarian stresses in his turn: “The more we have startups, its going to bring more investment to Armenia, it’s going to bring more happiness. And young generation is not going to look how to escape from this country to find a job”.

CNN’s correspondent adds that Vahan Chakarian invested USD3 mln of his own money in the company and “he is hopeful his technology will soon be available around the world…”.
