Orange Foundation granted scholarships to 20 students in Gyumri and Vanadzor

Orange Foundation today granted scholarships to 20 students of the Gyumri and Vanadzor branches of State Engineering (Polytechnic) University, the company informs.

“Our partnership with the universities is ongoing, and assistance to the most promising students who have difficulties in paying their tuition fees is one of the components of this partnership,” said Francis Gelibter, Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation.

The Orange Foundation transferred 2 mln AMD to the mentioned universities to use the amount for paying tuition fees of the mentioned 20 students. The students have been selected on the proposal of the universities, based on 2 criteria – student’s academic performance and family’s financial standing. During this academic year it is planned to grant scholarships to the students of 9 universities based on the same criteria.

The partnership with the universities is not limited to granting of scholarships only. In the scope of this partnership the students can have their professional internship at Orange, and Orange employees conduct professional and training courses for the students. The establishment of WiFi corners is another component of the partnership – the Vanadzor branch of SEUA has already had one for a year while the WiFI corner at the Gumri branch was launched during Francis Gelibter’s visit. The WiFi corners allow the students and staff of the universities to go online between classes for educational as well as leisure purposes.

Partnership of Orange with the universities of Armenia has been launched two years ago. In 2011-2012, the Orange Foundation granted scholarships to 67 students of 6 universities, and in 2012-2013, scholarships will be granted to 95 students of 9 universities.
