470 works competing for Orange Book Prize this year

Yerevan/Mediamax/. The reception of applications for participation in annual Orange Book Prize 2012 launched on 2 August, 2012 came to its close, Orange Armenia informs.

Total 470 applications for participation in the contest have been presented, out of which 155 short stories, 236 poems, 39 novels and 40 fairy tales. As a reminder, 130 works competed in the frames of this contest last year.

Starting now is beginning the period of Jury reading of the works. After that maximum three best works in each category will be selected and posted at Orange official web page on 15 January, 2013. From that day on the readers will have the chance to vote for their favorite works through Orange official web page on Facebook. On 15 February, 2013, at noon the results of the online voting will be finalized and the number of votes per ech work will be recorded.

The winner in each category will be selected based on the votes of the Jury. Moreover, the results of the online voting will be considered as a vote of a Jury member. Regardless of the category, the work with maximum votes of readers will also get the special Popular prize.
The winners, as well as all the candidates for Orange Book prize selected by the Jury will be granted certificates, and the winning works will be published in 500 copies. The authors of the winning works in each category will be granted monetary rewards (500 000 AMD per each), except for the holder of the Popular prize.

Names of the winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on 20 February, 2013.
As a reminder,  four nominations of the contest – short story, novel, fairy tale and poetry, are open to those writing in Armenian and having presented a literary work never published in the past. For the first time this year Orange Book prize is open to the Diaspora as well, i.e., to those writing in Armenian.

The objective of the contest is to discover contemporary Armenian writers, spread their literary works through the daily evolving electronic media among large group of readers and boost interest in reading. Orange Book Prize is organized and implemented in cooperation with Armenian Book Center NGO.
