Leading producers introduce 4G smartphones

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Over ten smartphones and tablets supporting 4G/LTE technology were introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas.

According to Kommersant, the overwhelming majority of devices are designed for U.S. mobile operators.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer introduced Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone. The device has been developed by specialists of Nokia, AT&T and Microsoft for several months. The smartphone will go on sale in the months to come but the price is not announced yet.

The first Sony LTE smartphone – Xperia ion will operate in USA within AT&T network and will go on sale in the second quarter of 2012. Sony is also planning to introduce a dual-screen LTE tablet at that time.

Motorola, LG, HTC, Pantech also introduced new LTE-smartphones for the U.S. market. The Chinese Huawei presented its first LTE smartphone- Ascend P LTE.

According to assessments of GSA Association, 49 commercial LTE networks are launched in 29 countries today, and 119 commercial LTE networks will be launched in over 50 countries worldwide by the end of 2012.

In late 2011, Armenian VivaCell-MTS mobile operator announced the commercial launch of 4G/LTE network in the center of Yerevan.
