Ucom purchases iCON Communications

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Heads of Ucom and iCON Communications internet-providers Hayk Yesayan and Raffi Kasarjian announced the merger of the two companies under Ucom brand today.

According to Ucom Director Hayk Yesayan, the survey conducted among the company’s subscribers showed that about 20% of them would like to use wireless internet as well and taking into account the fact, it was decided to combine fiber optic technologies of Ucom network and WiMAX provided by iCON, Mediamax reports.

According to Hayk Yesayan, the company has long considered the option of providing alternative wireless internet services and has held negotiations with the iCON to this end, as “the latter is one of the leaders on the WiMAX technology service market and has quite a broad coverage in Yerevan”.

According to the Ucom Director, starting from today, Ucom and iCON can turn to their operators to obtain the services which the providers haven’t formerly used.

Hayk Yesayan informed that the companies will continue making deals at their current rates till the end of the deal but Ucom will start providing services within joint tariff plans including wired internet, IP TV and phone services as well as wireless internet in the nearest future.

The deal will result in transferring 100% of iCON Communications shares to Ucom. According to Hayk Yesayan, the relevant application is already submitted to the Commission on Regulation of Public Services of Armenia (CRPS). He didn’t voice the sum of the deal referring to the relevant decision of the two companies’ shareholders.

In his turn, Raffi Kasarjian noted that the deal will have a positive impact on about 4000 iCON subscribers who will be able to get broader scope of services from the same provider from now on.
