Open Armenian Cyber Sport Championship to take place in Yerevan on June 22-26

Yerevan, June 20. /Mediamax/. Fifth Open Armenian Cyber Sport Championship will take place in Congress Hotel in Yerevan on June 22-26. At the same time, it is the Armenian qualifying round of the largest international festival of computer and video games WCG (World Cyber Games).

Mediamax reports that President of the Armenian Professional Cyber Sport League Edgar Sahakyan said at a news conference in Yerevan today that this year the official types of sport are FIFA11 and StarCraft2, and the unofficial ones are Counter Strike 1.6 and WarCraft3-DotA.

Edgar Sahakyan said that, according to the results of the online registration at www.wcg.am , which completed yesterday, 261 participants (185 – in FIFA11, 16 – in StarCraft2, 40 – in Counter Strike 1.6 and 20 in WarCraft3-DotA) will be participating in the above-mentioned types, and this number 2.5 times exceeds the number of participants in the previous years. “We still have vacant places for new participants and the registration will continue also on the day of launch of the Championship at “Congress” Hotel”, Edgar Sahakyan said.

According to him, this year the prize fund will make AMD 3.6mln and the prizes are provided by Samsung Company – 30 monitors, 4 notebooks, 2 netbooks, and the winners of two official types of contests will gain the right to represent Armenia at the global finale championship of WCG, which will take place in Busan city in South Korea on December 8-11, 2011.

The global sponsor of the Championship is Samsung Company and the general sponsor of the national championship is “ArmenTel” Company (Beeline brand). General Director of “ArmenTel” Company Igor Klimko, who attended the press conference, noted that computer games stimulate development of important features among children, such as strategic thinking, planning, culture to carry out negotiations, etc. He noted the role of holding such championships in terms of the fact that “70% of children, who play computer games today, will work in IT sphere in future”.
