WiMAX operators in Armenia carry out works on expanding the coverage zone

Yerevan /Mediamax/. WiMAX operators “Cornet-AM” and iCON Communications carry out active works on expanding the coverage zone and improving the quality of services.

As the Chief Commercial Officer of iCON Communications Raffi Kassarjian stated in an interview to Mediamax, the company has registered significant growth of subscribers’ number after expanding the geography and starting service provision in Yerevan communities of Nor-Norq, Avan, Kanaker-Zeytun, Kasakh village and Vahagni residential district.

Raffi Kassarjian informed Mediamax that the apartment use modems and USB modems are equally popular. Individuals prefer “iCon entry” and “iCon connect” packages, and for corporate customers more preferable are the tariff plans of “iCon media” and “iCon optima”.

Talking about the company’s further plans, Raffi Kassarjian informed that within the nearest months the number of base stations will reach 70, which will allow providing full coverage in Yerevan. The company plans to cover the entire territory of the republic in 2010.

At the moment, the coverage area of iCon in Yerevan makes 70 square kilometers, including Kentron, Arabkir, Achapnyak, Zeytun, Nor-Norq and Avan communities: 38 base stations are located here.

Chief Executive Director of “Cornet-AM” Boris Demirkhanyan believes that each service of the company has its niche and its own consumers, however, “one can state with confidence the tendency of interest growth among house consumers for quality services”.

Answering the question on the possible reduction of tariffs for services, taking into account the reduction of prices for wholesale internet by “ArmenTel” Company, Boris Demirkhanyan stated that “Cornet-AM” tries to carry out weighted price policy and offers various packages, meant to optimize the service for the final user.

“In this context, our company does not have to wait for reduction of tariffs for main resources to make the service more attractive for its consumer”, “Cornet-AM” Head stated.

“Cornet-AM” provides services in Yerevan, as well as in 18 towns of the republic: Vanadzor, Gyumri, Sevan, Gavar, Hrazdan, Charentsavan, Dilijan, Ijevan, Spitak, Stepanavan, Ashtarak, Abovyan, Artashat, Armavir, Etchmiadzin, Goris, Kapan and Alaverdi.

According to Boris Demirkhanyan, taking into account the technologic capacities, the company’s customers may use “Cornet-AM” connection also in Tsakhkadzor, Masis and Oshakan and other settlements.
