International “Kangaroo” Math Contest to take place in Armenia on March 19

Yerevan /Mediamax/. International “Kangaroo” Math Contest, organized by “AYB” Educational Foundation, will taken place on March 19 in Armenia.

Mediamax reports that the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Father Mesrop Aramyan informed today that an unprecedented number of participants, who expressed wish to take part in the contest, is registered. The contest will take place at over 570 schools of Armenia, and 30 thousand pupils of 3-11 grades will participate in it.

Father Mesrop Aramyan noted that for the first time Armenia officially participates in this prestigious international contest and that Armenia is the second country after Slovenia, which demonstrated such a high index of participation among participant-states.

“Despite the statements, according to which the new generation is brought up exclusively on low-quality TV soap operas, we gained real proofs of the fact that there are talented and purposeful children in Armenia”, Father Mesrop Aramyan stated.

Executive Director of “Ayb” Foundation David Sahakyan stated that such a significant interest towards the contest was a surprise for the organizers; since it was expected that maximum of possible participants would make 7 thousand pupils.

In 2010, math tests will also be worked out for participants of Russian-language schools of Armenia, which have also expressed a wish to participate in the contest. Besides, in 2010, “Kangaroo” contest will also take place at Armenian schools of Samtskhe-Javakheti (Georgia) and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Deputy Minister of Science and Education Ara Avetisyan stressed the importance of realizing such contests in Armenia in the view of integration process to European educational system.

The International “Kangaroo” Math Contest has been realized in Europe since 1994 at the initiative of “Kangourou Sans Frontieres” Association. The context of logic and entertaining problems takes place every year in 50 countries at the participation of over 5mln schoolchildren.
