Ucom: Main cable securing internet access in Armenia damaged in Georgia

An incident tool place at around 1pm on March 22 in the area between Gori and Zestafon settlements in Georgia, which damaged the Main and back-up cables securing internet access in Armenia.

Ucom has announced that Armenian users barely noticed the consequences of the incident because they were mitigated via back-up cables. However, the back-up cable suffered damage in Tbilisi at 5:15pm, which cut Armenians’ access to internet provided through Georgia. After an hour of joint work, Armenian and Georgian experts managed to restore the back-up cable, which now provides internet access to Armenian users.

Ucom now uses the back-up cables, which allows the company’s subscribers to use internet as usual. Ucom has said that the consequences of the incident would not be so noticeable if the number of internet users had not grown so drastically in recent days because of the state of emergency.

Ucom understands how important internet access is in these circumstances and assures that everything possible will be done for securing it. The company will make additional statements when an update is available on the situation.
