VivaCell-MTS: We don’t wiretap phone calls

VivaCell-MTS has announced that the company did not and does not wiretap phone conversations, “and does not have the authority or technical ability to do so”.

The company has said a criminal case has been opened regarding the wiretapping and they consider commenting on the case-related information inappropriate.

“Nevertheless, given the need to defend the professional reputation of the company and guided by the article 1087.1 of the Armenian Civil Code, VivaCell-MTS demands that certain media outlets and individuals cease the unnecessary speculations about the issue and attacks on the company, especially on social media,” said VivaCell-MTS.

The wiretapping scandal broke out yesterday, when an anonymous user released the recording of a phone call between Director of Armenian National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan and Head of Armenian Special Investigation Service Sasun Khachatryan. Mr. Vanetsyan told the press later that his mobile operator is VivaCell-MTS.
