Winners of Optimath Olympiad revealed

The organizers have revealed the winners of Optimath, the optimization and math-modeling Olympiad hosted by the American University of Armenia.

15 students took part in the final of the Olympiad, organized by the Zaven & Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering.

The winner of the Olympiad is Arsen Hambardzumyan (prize – AMD 50 000). The second place is occupied by Artak Muradkhanyan (prize – AMD 40 000), and the third place is shared by Shant Navasardyan and Hakob Kirakosyan (prize – AMD 20 000 for each).

The winners who are accepted in Industrial Engineering and Systems Management (IESM) program of the American University of Armenia can double the value of their prize in the form of tuition assistance scholarship.

Chair of IESM Program, Director of CAD/CAM Laboratory Sargis Zeytunyan told Itel.am that the Olympiad’s mission is to stimulate youth’s interest in applied sciences and guide them in overcoming challenges in the field.

During the Olympiad, the participants tried to solve optimization and math-modeling problems, offered by the professors from the American University.

“The concept of industrial engineering isn’t understood well in Armenia. First, people imagine it to be connected directly to industry, but in fact, the subject covers a larger spectrum. In order to fill the gap in understanding, we organized the Olympiad that involved the students of bachelor and master courses from YSU, University of Economics, the Polytechnic, Slavonic, and American Universities, who study mathematics or applied sciences, as well as recent graduates,” Sargis Zeytunyan said.
