VivaCell-MTS has suspended the provision of free Wi-Fi in Yerevan subway until the issue of unauthorized utilization of its Wi-Fi infrastructure by a third-party is resolved, the press release disseminated by the company reads this.
“VivaCell-MTS has been providing free Wi-Fi since August 2012, in order to provide the passengers of Yerevan subway with means of communication and leisure while waiting for the train. Wi-Fi access has been provided on unconditional basis, for the whole period of staying in Yerevan subway, with no requirement to watch any content prior to connection or staying online”, the press release notes.
VivaCell-MTS adds that recently, a third-party organization, without prior notice, contact or agreement with VivaCell-MTS, has made an intervention into the infrastructure by offering persons willing to access free Wi-Fi to watch ad spots as a precondition necessary for staying connected to Wi-Fi and was promoting the sales of advertising spots prior to accessing their free Wi-Fi.
VivaCell-MTS considers the above-mentioned as an unlawful intervention into its infrastructure and unauthorized utilization of its resources with the aim to generate revenues.
“Therefore, the company is determined to suspend the provision of free Wi-Fi, until the unlawful intervention into its infrastructure is stopped”, VivaCell-MTS reports.
