For the first time ever participants of “Museum Night” event due on May 16 will be able to communicate with each other via FireChat mobile app, at that, no Internet access is required.
The chat was developed along with the Ministry of Culture of Armenia for especially that day, co-author of the initiative, resident of Moscow Anton Merkurov told Itel.am.
“American FireChat app is the first messenger, which can work even without Internet access. It allows smartphones to “establish” contact with each other (Peer-to-peer computing) through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and other options. In 2014, the app was used in a number of countries as a means of communication during protests. By implementing this initiative in Armenia I want to show that this technology is indeed a good one,” noted Anton Merkurov.
According to him, the chat enables communication between people at a distance of up to 50 meters.
Anton Merkurov noted that the number of FireChat users is over five million globally.
“I will be happy if at least 50 people communicate with each other on that day using this app, because our current primary goal is to demonstrate this technology and how it works. It will be an ongoing project and we are going to employ it in Armenia in the future as well,” said Anton Merkurov.
By the way, within the framework of “Museum Night” events among CIS countries, this FireChat technology will be first employed in Armenia.
