Armenian Eye Care Project and Orange Foundation launch 2014 Free Eye Care Initiative

Orange Foundation and the Armenian Eye Care Project (AECP) announce the launch of 2014 free eye care project, in the frame of which inhabitants of Ararat, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Syuniq and Armavir regions will benefit from free eye care services. The works in Gegharkunik will be conducted by a special request of the Armenian Healthcare Ministry.

It is envisaged that around 11,300 adults and 4,600 children will undergo eye screenings, over 2,000 eyeglasses will be provided. The hospital is ready to perform around 1,000 surgeries and laser treatment in these 5 regions. Along with eye screening, special classes on eye care will as well be organized in the regional schools.

“It is already 4 year in a row that, together with Armenian Eye Care Project, Orange Foundation implements this major project, thanks to which already more than 50,000 people have had the opportunity to have eye screenings and more than 3,700 underwent surgeries free of charge. This project really makes a difference in people’s lives, in particular by providing socially vulnerable inhabitants and families with the possibility to benefit from quality eye care treatment for free. We are very glad to announce that 2014 project has been launched, and that this year the ophthalmological teams will visit inhabitants of Ararat, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Syunik and Armavir regions”, said Francis Gelibter, Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation.

Thanks to the recent 3-year cooperation of Armenian Eye Care Project and Orange Foundation more than 50,000 people (40,688 adults and 9,997 children) have had eye screenings, 6,498 inhabitants have undergone second more detailed checking. 3,768 surgeries and laser treatment have been conducted in the mobile eye hospital, 18,140 glasses have been prescribed, 3,659 children in 53 regional schools have participated to the special eye care classes. The project has covered 9 regions of Armenia out of which Shirak and Aragatsotn regions have been visited twice.
