IT sector will pass ahead of mining by its growth rates, Armenian PM claims

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan expressed the opinion today that the IT sector in Armenia will leave behind the mining sector by its growth rates in next 3 years.

The Prime Minister said this during “ArmTech Congress 2011” annual forum which started in Yerevan today under “Learn from the Past, Discover the Future” slogan.

“The practice of recent years shows that talented professionals are our edge. That’s why we started to get specialized in complex software products”, stated Tigran Sargsyan.

According to him, the sector has undergone radical changes over the last 3 years.

“We currently have about 300 enterprises employing 5 500 specialists. Taking into account the telecommunication sector, the number of specialists makes about 10 000. Thus, the annual growth potential makes 20%. Annual volume of IT sector production makes about USD 200mln, so the sector competes with mining one”, said the Armenian Prime Minister.

“ArmTech Congress 2011” is organized by the Armenian government, “Enterprise Incubator” Foundation, Synopsis Armenia, Unicomp, Viaspher Technopark, Armenian Development Agency with the support of the Union of IT Enterprises.
