Main problem hampering the development of e-commerce in Armenia is the impossibility of direct acceptance of foreign internet-payments

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Issues related to the development of e-commerce are discussed in Yerevan today with the participation of representatives of IT-sector, Central Bank (CB), State Revenue Committee of Armenia, payment and account organizations and other interested sides.

Director of Overall Solutions (the company has developed an on-line hotel booking system in Armenia) David Kotanyan said that the main factor hampering the development of e-commerce in Armenia is the impossibility of direct acceptance of internet-payments from abroad through internal solutions and the inadequate level of legal regulation of the sphere.

“Banks require business profitability assessment from an IT-company for getting a license to accept foreign internet payments, which I believe is senseless taking into account the speed of development of e-commerce worldwide,” David Kotanyan said. He noted that given artificial obstacles on the path of development of that business, Armenia runs the risk of falling behind its neighbors and other CIS countries in this sphere.
