36 000 pupils from Armenia and NKR to participate in “Kangaroo 2011” competition

Yerevan/Mediamax/. International math contest “Kangaroo 2011”, organized by “Ayb” Educational Foundation, will be held in Yerevan on March 17.

As Director of the Foundation David Sahakian said at a press conference in Yerevan today, 36 000 pupils from 910 schools from Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) will take part in the competition this year,

A pilot competition was held in NKR in 2010, and starting from this year the schools of Artsakh became full members of “Kangaroo” competition.

“The successive and active participation of children proved that the education occupies not the last place among their interests, that every year Armenian pupils take part in the most popular competition of the world with love and enthusiasm,” David Sahakian stated.

“Ayb” Director also said that the web site of the Armenian competition http://kangaroo.am/ has become very popular. It features the tasks of previous competitions, which future participants of “Kangaroo 2011” actively use and discuss on the site’s forum.

In reply to Mediamax’s question David Sahakian said that the Foundation thinks over creating an international camp for the winners of “Kangaroo” in Armenia, but they should first of all gain the confidence of the Organizing Committee of the International Association of “Kangourou Sans Frontieres” (“Kangaroo without borders”).

Armenian Deputy Minister of Education and Science Manuk Mkrtchian highlighted the importance of holding “Kangaroo” in Armenia, noting that the competition allows revealing the mathematical inclinations of children, who show no interest in the subject within the school program.

“We are happy to have such a partner as the “Ayb” Educational Foundation. By its activity the Foundation fills in the gaps existing in the process of provision of pupils’ qualitative and substantial education,” Manuk Mkrtchian stated.
