Two winners of “Kangaroo” contest from Armenia will leave for Bulgaria

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Two winners of “Kangaroo” International Math Contest from Armenia will leave for a summer camp in Bulgarian in August.

Mediamax reports that eighth grade pupils Edgar Minasyan from Yerevan and Abraham Grigoryan from Vanashen village of Ararat marz became the winners of the contest in Armenia.

Executive Director of “Ayb” Educational Foundation (“Kangaroo” contest organizer in Armenia) David Sahakyan informed that the absolute winners were selected as a result of an additional contest, held among 72 pupils, who had demonstrated excellent results.

“The total number of contest participants in Armenia this year made 39 341, and this is about 10 thousand more, as compared to the number of last year participants. Pupils of 902 schools in Armenia participated in the contest, while the total number of secondary schools all over the country makes 1400. Besides, this year we also organized a trial contest in all schools of Stepanakert”, David Sahakyan stated.

This year, the math problems were not only in Armenia, but also in Russia, and this fact facilitated the participation of Russian speaking children in the contest. “Kangaroo” contest, which took place in spring, 2010, was held in Armenia for the second time. Pupils of 3-11 grades can participate in it. The goal of the competition is to initiate general interest towards mathematics and make this subject more attractive for children.

“VTB Bank (Armenia)” is the sponsor of the contest realization in Armenia. “Mediamax” Agency and “Krtutyun” (“Education”) newspaper are the information partners. The contest is realized under the aegis of the Ministry of Education of Armenia.

This year, about 6mln pupils from 50 countries participated in “Kangaroo” contest from all over the world.
