HP negotiates with providers to secure free internet for “Computer for All” program participants

Yerevan /Mediamax/. “Computer for All” pilot program will continue till the end of 2010, and the main project is meant to last 4-5 years, upon completion of which the level of Armenian population computerization should make 30%.

Mediamax reports that the Director of “Enterprise Incubator Foundation” Bagrat Yengibaryan informed today that in 2 months of “Computer for All” pilot program implementation, 1300 computers were sold instead of planned 500.

Hewlett Packard (HP) Director on Projects in CIS Vadim Tikhonichev informed that 77% of the program participants represent the age category of 25-34. Despite the limited presence of the program offices in Armenia (Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor), residents of 25 towns have become participants of the project.

HP representative noted that “ACBA-Credit Agricole Bank” met 80% of applications for crediting within the framework of “Computer for All” program.

In 5 months, 2010, they plan to sell 5 thousand computers, open representative offices of the program in all regions of Armenia and start a program on population training and consultation. 

Hewlett Packard representative informed that the company holds negotiations with providers and telecommunication companies of Armenia to secure free internet for all participants of the program.

On January 20, 2010, “PC for Teacher” project, aiming at providing computers for school and university teachers at preferential terms, will be launched.
